Only 80% people in Jakarta live in houses connected to the municipal water system. The remaining people must buy their water from door-to-door vendors at a significantly inflated price. The impoverished people have limited access to water. The deep wells in Jakarta have to go deeper and deeper to produce water, and their output has been dropping off with time and many wells have been producing undrinkable water.
