Ijen’s Sulfur Miner

Mount Ijen in East Java is a beautiful place and is known for its traditional miners who dig for solid sulfur. These people carry dozens kilograms of sulfur –comes from the sulfurous gas sublimation of the volcano’s sulfatara–down the mountain’s slopes everyday.  ~~back to photostory index
