On the Brink: Proboscis Monkeys

BEKANTAN OR PROBOSCIS MONKEY (Nasalis larvatus) is an endemic primate of Kalimantan. According to researches, they are shy; live in groups consist of 10-30 individuals.  In Sungai Hitam (Black River), a habitat of bekantan in East Kalimantan, the animals are facing a condition where they probably have to adapt their behaviors. The forest is surrounded by human civilization: villages, inter-city road, oil pipes, agricultural field, and meadows where cattle feed.  ~~back to photostory index
