Sawahlunto: Coal Town of the Past

SURROUNDED BY HILLS, Sawahlunto–has a population of 15, 279–is a small town and one of the mining towns in West Sumatra. Coal was discovered in the area during Dutch colonial era, in the mid-19th century. It was one of the main resources to develop the industry and transportation at that time. The town is now act as one of the major destinations of tourism in West Sumatra, displaying it’s past.  ~~back to photostory index
